Q. How does SmartBroker Pro compare with
those “red light, yellow light, green light” systems?
Ever wonder why the vendors of the “red light, yellow light,
green light” systems never talk about which
stocks to track? They don’t have a system for selection which is
paramount over when to enter or exit a trade. SmartBrokers’ greatest strength is in
“stock selection”. Once you are
tracking the top few stocks, entry and exit becomes either mundane or obvious. Because of this fact, we can’t even
recommend that the best of both worlds would be to combine the two
systems. Once you optimize your
stock selection, entry/exit points are a function of your trade frequency
and preferences. You won’t need a
green light to know when to buy. Even when day-trading, you’ll simply
look for a dip in price because you’ll already have the correct stock in
your sights.
Q. Do I have to subscribe to a service to get data?
Yes,
you will need to subscribe to a data provider to periodically get updated
quote information. There are several FREE quote services such as
EODData http://www.eoddata.com/.
You only
need to subscribe to one data service.
Q. Does your
program work in real time?
No.
SmartBroker does not work in real-time as it uses recent-past data to
update a trend file for future projections. You download quotes every
weekend, and SmartBroker maintains a trend file for each and every stock
you are tracking. Price forecast are good for 6 months, and new
opportunities are identified each week. This convenience allows you to
take your time on weekends, and evaluate which opportunities you want to
consider, without the need to rush.

special requests. The primary method of delivery is to download the
program. Full documentation is included.

This
is not an error. Even if you delete the entire program and all
associated files. SmartBroker is restricted from running on your computer
after your 12 trials until you purchase the software. The updates
have no effect on your remaining trials.

SmartBroker
will extract data from practically any ASCII text file.
FIRST,
you must set your data source in Preferences, General Set-up to Customize
file. Then set the format of the file you want to use.
SECONDLY,
Once you have specified the file format, go into PROCESS QUOTES (from top
menu), and simply pick the file you want to use. SmartBroker will
convert, process, and take care of everything from here.

Just use the file you have, but be sure to properly specify it.

The
simplest way is to run SmartBroker in different directories.

Yes.
Documentation comes with the software. Technical analysis is
based on advanced calculus, non-linear equations, advanced statistics,
and a host of highly correlated parameters. Additionally, SmartBroker
adjusts or "learns" over time. It also recognizes your
inputs on several qualitative questions, which you are encouraged to
update quarterly. The entire approach is proprietary, and is not suitable
for articles.
Q. If I'm able to
get daily loads, is SmartBroker able to process daily quotes (instead
of weekly quotes) and retain the info for more than 5 cycles?
Yes. You can run daily. SmartBroker only wants 5 data points
for each stock. It's intent is to only require the minimum number
of data points rather than storing quantities of data.
Q. Most of the
menu items under Communications/Quotes are greyed out. Why is that?
You
need only to select "Open Communications" from the top menu.
Q. Does
SmartBroker give buy signals each night, if you want it too?
It
can, but you would need to process a new quote file everyday, and you
would miss a lot of opportunities due to the minimized price movements
from day-to-day. Therefore weekends are recommended as the shortest
period between downloads or quote file processing.
Q. Is there any way to filter (sort) stocks
with confidence level? 30%, 60% 90%?
No. The confidence level is more based on
math correlation confidence rather than predictive confidence. The
stock goes through many additional filtering steps after the math
confidence is established, so sorting on this parameter would be
misleading.
Q. I understand SmartBroker Pro can combine quote
files and process multiple quote files… what’s the difference?
If you're downloading individual files from
different exchanges (NASDAQ, AMEX, NYSE) you'll want to combine them
to make one file
for processing. You only have to do this if you are downloading
different files from different exchange (i.e. using EODdata files).
Files from Prophet Financial are already combined with NYSE, AMEX, OTCBB,
NASDAQ, etc. all in the same file. You cannot and should not combine
files representing different time periods.
You can then process, in batch, your 5 files
representing 5 different periods (daily, weekly, monthly, etc. = your
choice) for processing using the Create
Back-Testing Batch File feature. Each
file for processing is for a specific date.

Combining files is when using separate exchange files from
different exchanges so to have one single file for processing. Each file
is for the same date.

Processing quote files is how you update your database. You
can process all of your initial 5 files in batch, or one at a
time (your choice). One combined quote file is
for one specific date (meaning all quotes in a quote file is
for the same day).
